I feel like I’m the last person on earth (or at least, in America) to have seen the Blue Man Group.
But honestly, those guys always looked a little creepy to me. Did I REALLY need more fodder for my nightmares? No. I did not.
However, my seven-year-old son felt differently. He watched the infomercial on the Blue Man Group show in Orlando over and over during our stay at Loews Portofino Bay a few months ago, and promptly put seeing them on his Things I Gotta Do As Soon As Possible list. And that’s how we found ourselves at the show last night- with seats, thanks to the generosity of TPAC, fifth row-center. (The show runs through January 11th at TPAC.)
I really didn’t know what to expect– but honestly, I’m not sure that reading about it ahead of time would have prepared me for what happened. It’s a difficult show to describe. Just try to imagine a rock concert/rave/comedy/light show featuring state-of-the-art technology, mind boggling props, and lots and lots (and lots) of audience interaction and you’ll get the basic idea.
And here are my two biggest takeaways for parents–
1. This show is GREAT for kids ages 7 and up, as long as they don’t have a problem with loud music and strobe lights. My son was literally on cloud nine throughout the entire performance, and my husband and I had as much fun watching him as we did watching the show itself.
2. If you can spring for it, sit as close to the stage as possible. The interactive portion of the show is largely limited to the first 20 or so rows. (The first two rows included complimentary rain ponchos for audience members to wear during the show!)
We loved the show from start to finish, but the moment we’ll never forget was the finale, when ginormous, lit balls were released into the audience for everyone to bat around and a TON of confetti streamers rained down all around us while the Blue Man Group played their drums. It was like the best dance party ever, and it more than made up for our lackluster New Years Eve.
Afterward, our ecstatic children proudly wore their confetti streamers out into the lobby. We were all pretty sure that the night couldn’t get any better.
We were wrong.
One member of the Blue Man Group had come out to the lobby to pose for pictures. My son couldn’t WAIT to meet him.
And then…
He left his Blue Man Mark on Bruiser’s confetti!!!!
Best. Autograph. Ever.
The “touched” confetti now resides in a place of honor in my son’s room. I think we may have a future Blue Man member on our hands…
Thanks, TPAC, for an evening my family will never, EVER forget!

I saw them perform in Las Vegas and had the best time. Very entertaining for everyone.
We saw them a long time ago when our kids were a little older than yours. We all loved it!
My fiancé and I saw them Friday night. My first time seeing them. I’m 50 and LOVED every minute of the show! I will definitely see them again and will make sure to get on the ground floor this time! I picked great seats on the next level not sure if I was going to want to be that close to the stage. For those who have never seen this show, you do!
