Jewelry lovers, rejoice.
JewelMint.com, the subscription jewelry site curated by actress Kate Bosworth and her best friend and stylist-to-the-stars Cher Coulter, is open for business, offering members jewelry pieces specially chosen just for them, for just $29.99 per item.
I was offered a chance to sign up for JewelMint and try it out for myself. I was excited to do it, since I’ve read quite a bit of press about JewelMint and consider Kate Bosworth to be one of the most stylish celebrities in Hollywood. If she was willing to put her talent and effort behind this site, chances are it has to be pretty good, right? Here’s my JewelMint experience…
First, I took a brief (and fun!) style quiz, in order to determine what kind of jewelry would best suit my taste. Once I was done, I was directed to my virtual showroom, which was filled with jewelry that would hopefully appeal specifically to me. I liked many of the selections, and I also appreciated that I could opt to see more before I chose what I wanted.
To me, the coolest part of the site is that either Kate or Cher have written about every single piece of jewelry featured, and Kate has been photographed in many of the pieces. They offer advice on how, where, and with what to wear each piece of jewelry, advice I found I was reading with interest. As most of you know, I love fashion, but I don’t have hours to put outfits together. The tips were invaluable and helped me figure out what I wanted to order.
I had five credits on JewelMint to order whatever I wanted. I placed my order and received a box in the mail about a week later.
My first thought when I opened the box was that JewelMint jewelry would make a great Christmas gift!
Each piece of jewelry comes in a stylish box with a magnetic closure. The jewelry is presented on velvet inside, with a jewelry pouch and a card explaining the significance of the piece. It’s a magnificent presentation, particularly for something that only cost $29.99.
Check it out for yourself:
These are the Versailles Earrings, which are gorgeous in person. I can’t wear them because my ears aren’t pierced, but I ordered them anyway because I can put clip-on backs on the backs of these earrings and wear them! SCORE.
My favorite piece that I ordered, the one I’ve been wearing quite a bit since it arrived, was this lovely Gatsby bracelet:
I love Art Deco-style jewelry, and this bracelet is no exception. It’s surprisingly heavy for a $29.99 bracelet and has a real vintage-y look and feel, right down to its clasp.
Do I not look SO FREAKING HAPPY in this bracelet? *sigh*
Continuing in the retro vibe, I’m also loving this Savoy Bracelet….
It has that same heavy look and feel that you tend to only find in older pieces, and I know that anyone who sees it on me will swear it’s a true vintage bracelet. LOVE.
Then there’s the Victorian Charmer necklaces…
One necklace looks like a tiny vintage perfume bottle, the other is a magnifying glass. I really liked these necklaces because while they look great together, they can also be worn alone, or with other necklaces of varying lengths.
And finally, check out this fantastic Scarab Ring…
What can I say except that this is the kind of ring that only a cool girl would wear. And now I have it.
Yessssss.
The obvious question I’m sure you have is, “What’s the catch?”
Well, joining a subscription jewelry site like this one does take a bit of responsibility on your part. Basically, you’re sent an e-mail on the first of each month letting you know that new pieces are available in your online showroom. You can buy whatever you like for $29.99 per piece — and shipping is always free! If you don’t want to buy anything, you have to choose the “skip this month” option by the fifth of the month in order not to be charged.
You can always sign up for the site at no cost, just to see if the jewelry is up your alley or not- You will not be charged or asked to give your credit card information until you make your first purchase.
And that’s it! I’ve joined sites like this before and it really was pretty simple to click through the e-mail each month and turn down an order if I didn’t want to buy anything. If you love accessorizing your outfits with jewelry, JewelMint is definitely a site you’ll want to check out!
And as an added bonus, if you use the promo code SUBURBAN by 11/30/11, you’ll get 50% off your first JewelMint purchase!
Disclosure: I was compensated for writing this post. Independently, I’ve been dying to check out JewelMint. Aren’t I lucky?
