What I Learned About MinuteClinic (VIDEO)

Posted by: Lindsay Ferrier    Tags:  Video    Posted date:  August 22, 2011  |  4 Comments

When my kids get sick, I’m on the phone with their pediatrician’s office in minutes.

When I get sick, though, I rarely schedule a doctor’s appointment for myself.

It’s embarrassing to admit that this is the case, but I’m sure you moms out there understand. My worst nightmare is taking my kids with me while I’m sick all the way across town to my doctor’s office so that I can get checked out. And generally, that’s my only option. So rather than getting the medicine I need, I end up, for example, suffering with strep throat FOR AN ENTIRE MONTH.

Good times, people.

Good times.

So when BlogHer offered to compensate me to meet with representatives from MinuteClinic (the walk-in medical clinic located inside select CVS/pharmacy stores), participate in a video about the clinic, and share what I’ve learned in a post, I may have PRETENDED to be excited about the, erm, compensation.

But really, I was excited to learn that there’s a new solution to my personal doctor visit dilemma.

Here’s what you need to know:

  • MinuteClinics are located inside select CVS/pharmacy stores. Right now, there are close to 600 across the nation. That number will grow to 1,000 in the next five years.
  • MinuteClinics are open seven days a week and staffed with licensed nurse practioners and physician’s assistants. You don’t need an appointment to visit!
  • Not only can you get a prescription written to treat common illnesses like strep throat and flu, you can fill it at that CVS as well.
  • MinuteClinics also provide wellness and prevention services including smoking cessation, screenings for cholesterol, hypertension, diabetes and obesity and physicals for college, camp and sports activities. Did you hear me, people? PHYSICALS FOR KIDS. That’s HUGE.
  • MinuteClinic is in-network with most major insurance carriers. MinuteClinic will accept as payment the co-pay as indicated on a patient’s insurance card.  MinuteClinic services are also available to Medicare beneficiaries.
  • For patients paying cash or credit, treatment prices are posted outside each health care center. Most treatments start at $79 – $89.
  • Looking for MinuteClinic near you? Use this mobile app to find one, whether you’re at home or traveling and in need of basic medical care.
  • You can also keep up to date on MinuteClinic information on the MinuteClinic Facebook page, or subscribe to MinuteClinic’s Health and Wellness newsletter here.
  • Check out this link to access the mobile app (you must access this link with your mobile phone).
  • Check out other what other BlogHers have to say about MinuteClinic here.

I don’t know about you, but the next time I get sick (or the next time one of the kids gets sick and we’re out of town), this is where I’m going.

Problem solved.

YOU’RE WELCOME.

And now, a special added bonus for those of you who’ve made it this far.

Me. In a video.

Please try to contain your excitement.

Now, tell me… Did I or did I not outdo Daphne Brogdon in her Packit.com commercial?!

Wait. Don’t answer that.

Instead, answer this:

Have you tried a MinuteClinic? Are you likely to now that you have this info?

I think I just heard of the MinuteClinic today (or I saw the ad for the app somewhere).
I might try it if I was traveling and didn’t feel well.  If I was here at home we have a few walk-in clinics right in our area so I’d probably go there – but I would like the convenience of getting my Rx filled in one place!

Oh! and what a hoot to hear you voice!

Ha, I never thought about that!  I wonder if it’s what you were expecting….  ;)

I went to a MinuteClinic when I was interning in DC a few summers ago, and I was absolutely thrilled with the experience.  It was very comforting for an out-of-towner like me to know that there was somewhere I could go to get fast, cost-effective healthcare if I started feeling cruddy while I was away from home.  I’m actually disappointed that we don’t have one of these near where I live now.
