I would never have known that Edy’s Slow Churned Shakes and Smoothies existed if I hadn’t been asked to try them out as part of a BlogHer review.
In a nutshell, they are individual-sized cups that you can find in the freezer section at the grocery. Pour a 1/3 cup of milk in them when you’re ready to enjoy them at home, stir them up, and instantly, you have a restaurant-quality smoothie or shake. Yummmmm.
In my house, the Shakes only lasted a couple of hours in the freezer before being spotted and demanded for dessert! The kids were thrilled that they got to “make” their shake themselves.
First, we tried basic Vanilla.
The kids carefully poured a 1/3 cup of milk into the shake mix, which looks like soft-serve ice cream when you open it.
They stirred (with a little help to keep the shake from ending up on the walls and ceiling!)…
…and a few seconds later, we had a smooth, delicious Vanilla Shake.
To add even more fun to the occasion, I let the kids add “mix-ins.” Punky put chocolate chips into her shake…
…while Bruiser opted for rainbow sprinkles.
The consensus? Well, both kids gobbled them up, and I’m pretty sure they liked them even better because they “made” the shakes themselves. Personally, I liked the shake for the kids because if they’re going to have a dessert treat, at least it’s one with milk in it! Also? I managed to get a few sips of the shake myself and it was fantastic. Edy’s Shakes (also known as Dreyer’s in some markets) also come in Chocolate, Strawberry, and Cookies n’ Cream.
More popular with the adults in the house were the Smoothies, which come in Mixed Berry, Strawberry Banana, Sunrise Blend, and Tropical flavors. They were tasty and very fruity, and they “disappeared” from our freezer quickly.
