My $50 Drugstore.com Gift Card Giveaway

Posted by: Lindsay Ferrier    Tags:  BlogHer, Giveaway    Posted date:  October 3, 2011  |  76 Comments

When I was a teenager, I comforted myself with the knowledge that if I had to get old, at least I wouldn’t have to deal with pimples anymore.

Yeah. Still laughing about that one.

I was lucky not to have a horrible experience with acne during my adolescence, but I can’t say the pimples have gotten much better since then, either. In my twenties, a hot humid climate combined with the makeup I wore on television news every day actually prompted me to get a prescription to deal with the pimples.

Once I got out of the TV business, the breakouts went away, at least until recently.

In the last six months or so, I’ve been getting a pimple at least every month or so, and these are the horrifically embarrassing pimples of my teen years. These are the kinds of pimples that convince me to stay home from special occasions, the kinds of pimples my husband can’t help but comment on, laughingly, when they’re at their worst.

Ouch.

I knew it was time to take action, but it was humiliating haunting the teenage acne section at my local drugstore. That’s why when BlogHer asked if I wanted to try and review the Olay Professional Pro-X Clear Line…

I was all over it.

The Olay Professional Pro-X Clear Line is, essentially, a three-step daily cleansing system. It is designed to treat adult acne, and since most acne products are designed for teenage skin, this is a very big deal. Not only does the Olay Professional Pro-X Clear Line help reduce breakouts, it also reduces the appearance of pores and refines skin texture. The product information promised that I’d see a difference in as little as four weeks.

Well, I’ve been using the Olay Professional Pro-X Clear Line for a month now and surprise! No breakouts! I can also say my skin feels smoother than it has before. I don’t know about the size of my pores, but I HATE when my pores seem “noticeable” and I haven’t noticed them in a while now, so …. YAY.

One of my favorite aspects of this skin care system is that it’s not drying to my skin. I’m able to use it every day without worrying that I’m somehow damaging my skin’s natural oil distribution. At the same time, my skin tends to feel oily on the bottom half of my face, particularly during warm weather, and the Olay Professional Pro-X Clear Line has eliminated that problem for me.

Another small detail that I appreciate — the packaging doesn’t say ACNE TREATMENT on the front. It looks like a woman’s skincare cleansing system, and I don’t have to worry about my husband or anyone else seeing acne products on my sink and giggling.

I will definitely be sticking with the Olay Professional Pro-X Clear Line to take care of my skin and I think you’ll like it, too.

No more pizza face!

Have you ever heard of bodycology? I hadn't until I agreed to try out bodycology's rich&creamy duo- which includes...

I am 38 now and have my biggest problem is my skin on neck I feel more loose than what it was during teenage years.

  • Tina M

    Like you,

    • Tina M

Whoops! Cut myself off. I was going to say, like you, I’ve had issues since I had kids and monthly, am starting to see a few pop up. Quite depressing to be dealing with wrinkles AND pimples. The only time I had a break was when I was pregnant.

  • http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=680611762 Sarah A. Cobb

Totally need that stuff! So sick of looking like a teenager but with two kids!

  • Suebob

Well, I’m 50, so I am a lot wrinklier than I used to be! I can definitely advise younger women to stay out of the sun or to put a hat on!

  • Amy

I had that same problem, but when I went through chemotherapy a few years ago, I learned a little-known secret. Chemo kills the top layer of your skin cells and they shed and it is like getting a facial.  It is THE ONLY good side effect there is!  My skin has been totally different (better) ever since. But I sure could use some wrinkle cream for my neck – NOTHING has fixed that so far. LOL.

  • http://twitter.com/EmRohrer Em Rohrer

I would love to try that system – I’ve tried so many skin systems and nothing works for very long!

  • Bonnie Zeigler

I was blessed with very clear skin as a teenager; however, my daughter has not been so lucky.  I would love to try this product for her.
    no blog, but email: bonniezeigler1@yahoo.com

I am in my mid 40′s and have a pimple every couple of months.  Definitely not something I expected at my age.  I would love to try this product.

I’m 50 and still have breakouts. I also have very dry skin now and many many wrinkles lol.

  • Mami2jcn

I no longer have pimples but I have dark under-eye circles now.

    mami2jcn at gmail dot com

  • Keryn Ross

My skin gets drier every year…when I was in high school, it wasn’t TOO bad,  but I have to put lotion or cream on it sometimes twice a day, now that I’m in my mid-30s.  Sigh.  It doesn’t help I live in a desert.

  • Leah B

I need to start taking better care of my skin,  it is way drier then when I was younger and I just don’t have a good system down.

  • Pa_north

Oh please let me when this.  I always say that I used so much Retin-A during the day that I better never have a wrinkle.  Alas — not much has changed.

  • Emilymariejudson

My skin hasn’t changed much at all!  I still break out a tiny bit during hormonal times.  The only difference now is that I always wear sunscreen and use an anti-aging face wash.  My mother has terrible wrinkles I’m trying to avoid!

  • http://myabsolutelyridiculouslife.blogspot.com Jayme Swallow

My skin hasn’t really changed, granted I’m not all that far from being a teenager! :) But I was lucky, I’d get random zits once in a great while, or around my period or stress related. I still do, but it’s not as bad as before!

  • Melissa

My skin has become drier and VERY sensitive since my teen years, but my acne has stubbornly stayed the same. It’s not monthly, it’s not stress-related, it’s ALL THE TIME. And my face is too sensitive now for me to bombard it with medications. All I can use is an anti-acne cleanser, and even then I have to be careful. Right now I’m using Olay’s Total Effects anti-aging anti-blemish cleanser and it’s working reasonably well, combined with all the botanical stuff I slather on my face after washing it.

  • Rma910

My skin is all over the place now that I’m 9 months post-partum. I feel like a teenager again! Blemishes and noticeable pores and dry one day / oily the next – I could really use this skin system!

  • Karina

now i have dark under eye circles

  • Sodapple

I’m still dealing with pimples! They mostly come during that time of the month,if I don’t drink enough water or aftere ating very fatty meals. They come mostly on my cheeks and I font like them!

The difference from my teen years is that I get them much, much, less than now. =)

  • Sam

Birth control = 10x less acne! Thank god.

  • Livlaugheat

My skin used to be typical oily skin but as I’ve gotten older (and moved to a different climate) it’s gotten drier. I actually have to switch to a heavier cream for the winter which is crazy after avoiding anything that wasn’t “oil free” for most of my life!

  • Gbea

“When I was a teenager, I comforted myself with the knowledge that if I had to get old, at least I wouldn’t have to deal with pimples anymore.”

I can totally relate - I figured they’d find a CURE for acne by now. Nope. I still deal with oily skin and monthly “blemishes” (as in: huge, red craters on my face that don’t disappear until the next month, just in time for the next cycle…). I’ve eliminated dairy from my diet and that has at least helped my bacne but it looks like monthly craters on my face are here to stay. Maybe that means I’m still young?

  • Nicole Csiszer

My skin is now much drier in the morning and gets greasy/oily toward the end of the workday.

  • Wendy Sorter

Not a lot of breakouts or acne in my thirties but my skin FEELS so oily and I hate that… not sure if it’s my moisterizer or my make-up but I can’t wait to wash my face at the end of the day.

    Thanks for the giveaway.

I still have oily skin and break out.  And I’m 30.  It’s pretty annoying – I keep wondering when it’s going to clear up.

  • Rosie

I have dry skin in the morning and oily by the end of the day. I still occasionally get a pimple here or there.

I have dry skin in the morning and oily by the end of the day. I still occasionally get a pimple here or there.

  • Cindy

As a teen, my skin was alright. It wasn’t until I was about 19 or so that I started seriously breaking out. My 20′s were the worst. Now at 37 (yikes) the breakouts are not so bad, but it happens every month. I have combo skin but if I use an acne product, it dries me out too much and I break out anyway. I have always loved Olay products so I’d like to try this out.

  • Aubreylaine

My skin used to be oily, now it is dry!

I have the wonderful combination skin.  Oily and dry, so I can never find a moisturizer that works well enough for me.  Either it makes me really oily and causes breakouts or it is not moisturizing enough and it looks dry and flaky.  Very annoying.

  • Kelleywinslett

  • Christy N

Ugh, my skin is so dry now that I am an adult. I’m pretty sure I could slather olive oil on it with no problem. I’ve considered it….

  • Samanthajocampen

My skin has changed since I’ve been a teenager in that my eyes are NOT as bright. They are dark and puffy. Granted I have a 3.5 year old so I think I know why, but still. Do not like. I also now have age spots (THE HORROR) which need to go away.

My skin can’t decide what it wants to do.  I go from dry and flaky to oily and broken out – if I’m lucky with some “happy medium” time in between.  Fun stuff!
