In Circus XTREME, Ringling Bros. Deftly Mixes the Old with the New

In a world where change is constant and nothing seems certain, there’s something extremely comforting about the fact that I can still take my kids to see the circus. Seeing the joy and wonder on their faces as they laugh at the clowns and gasp at the acrobats’ tricks reassures me that some things are indeed timeless.

Ringling Bros. Barnum & Bailey’s Circus XTREME is the latest version of their long running ‘Greatest Show on Earth,’ and while it has been updated and modernized to appeal to a young crowd that’s generally more comfortable with video games and Cartoon Network than live stage shows, it is still at its heart the same circus we grew up watching.

My palms grew sweaty as we watched these tightrope walkers perform tricks almost impossible to believe, all on a wire that’s thinner than a finger.

Those of you who’ve been to Ringling Bros. circus shows in the past might remember these amazing trampoline performers — They were back with a revamped act that includes trick cyclists and was a definite crowd favorite.

The Wheel of Steel — one of my personal favorite acts — was in full effect, and I’m pretty sure my heart stopped for a moment when the man on the wheel tripped while trying to jump rope at the very top of the moving wheel.

We were all thoroughly charmed by the poodle performance, and we only wished our own poodle could have been there to see it.

But the clear winner of Circus XTREME had to be the human cannonball.

In short, this is one arena performance that’s worth the price of admission.

Circus XTREME is appearing now in select cities across the country– See it if you get a chance. You won’t regret it.
