Lately, my favorite fashion blogs fall into a category known as “street style.” The authors of these blogs roam the sidewalks in some of the chicest cities in the world, snapping photos of women and men with inspiring style. I’ve begun using these blogs as a fashion reference far more than the online recaps of runway shows, because think about it. Are you more likely to take cues from a 90-pound woman wearing futuristic makeup and sewn into a leather/fur/chiffon creation as she struts down a catwalk? Or the 125-pound Italian Vogue stylist standing outside the runway show and dressed in a killer jacket and contrasting shoes?
Nashville, as we all know, has its own unique brand of street style, and I’m just waiting for a great photographer to start a blog documenting it. In the meantime, you’ve got me. And while I don’t spend too much time on the streets, I did have a fantastic opportunity this past weekend to capture the best of what some real fashion influencers are currently wearing. It all went down at a conference called Blissdom.
Blissdom is an annual event for women who blog. And at any event involving bloggers, lots and lots of photos will be taken, which means that everyone is going to be dressed to the nines. Here were a few of my favorite looks.
New Yorker Isabel Kallman is owner and operator of the popular Alpha Mom site, and she’s always dressed to kill. I loved her chartreuse dress, paired with opaque black tights and a pair of Louboutins that had everyone’s head turning.
Speaking of shoes, check these out. They may have been my favorite of the conference, especially peeping out under a pair of jeans.
Many of you have told me you simply can’t pull off the horizontal stripes trend, but I thought this blogger looked fantastic. Paired with black leggings, the look was very slimming, and I especially liked that she wore a pair of light brown leather boots with this outfit, as opposed to “safe” black boots. They gave her outfit a nice pop.
Also in the stripes department, this coat was to. Die. For. I love the pretty and lightweight spring coats that are hitting the stores now. They’re a great way to liven up the next couple of months and look equally fabulous over a spring dress or a pair of jeans.
Today’s Mom blogger and Today show producer Alicia Ybarbo looked absolutely fantastic in this on-trend ensemble. I love how she combined a neutral brown sweater and sandals with an eyecatching teal spring dress. The silk flower pin, though, is what made the look a standout.
Mamalogues blogger Dana Loesch proved that (a few) conservatives have fashion sense too, with this simple yet stylish outfit. Black boots and a crossbody bag dressed up her simple white shirt and jeans. She managed to look both comfortable and authoritative.
I got plenty of fashion ideas from the women of Blissdom, and I can’t wait to put some of them into play the next time I go shopping!
