I have been overwhelmed the last few days by the response to the open letter I wrote to Glenn Mull’s family and friends.
I really wanted his family in particular to know that thousands of people who live here in Nashville are praying for them right now, and that those of us who live near the crash site and those who witnessed it with their own eyes believe he was a hero for managing to crash his plane in the one spot- literally THE ONE SPOT- where it would do the least amount of harm to those on the ground. I may have written the post, but I knew I was simply conveying what a whole lot of people in my community were thinking.
I hoped when I wrote that post that someone in Kansas who reads this blog would know someone who knew someone who knew someone, and that the post might eventually make its way to a family member or close friend who would read it and maybe take some small comfort from it. I had no idea that this would all happen in less than two hours. Or that the comment section of the post would become the most touching, tear-inducing exchange between residents here in Bellevue and those who knew the Mulls and Harters in Kansas. I can’t even think about those comments now without crying. You people are amazing, you know that?
I have received countless e-mails, comments, Tweets and Facebook messages from friends and family members in Kansas sharing personal stories about the Mulls and the Harters, and thanking everyone in Bellevue for their kind words and their prayers. And despite the fact that the post has now been read by hundreds of thousands of people, I have not received one negative comment or e-mail about it. Not one.
I am really loving the Internet right now.
This experience has reminded me that despite the bad rap basically all of humankind is getting lately, there are still a LOT of people out there who are choosing good, who want to help those who are hurting, and who will, without hesitation, reach out to total strangers with love and compassion. And there are also a lot of people who feel so very blessed to receive it.
It’s an incredible thing to witness. And it wouldn’t have happened on this blog without YOU.
Thank you, dear friends. You make the time spent here so very worth it.

Awww, Isabel. You are one of my favorite people in the world. Thank you for being a great friend. 🙂
I’m so happy to hear that you have only received positive feedback. Love always wins.
Thank you for allowing us to run this in our paper and on our website. This was very touching.
You wrote, “…there are still a LOT of people out there … who will, without hesitation, reach out to total strangers with love and compassion.” I agree, but in this case, YOU were the one who did such a lovely, thoughtful thing that comforted the family and friends of the victims. Thanks for speaking for us in such a beautiful way.
