Are you interested in working with me? Please read this page carefully to help determine if I’m the right person for what you have in mind.
I’m always up for imagining and executing bold new ideas for brands and businesses. I choose my projects carefully and take on only those that fit my social media following and my lifestyle. I don’t feel comfortable taking on a project unless I KNOW you’re going to be happy with the results.
While I’ve worked extensively with some of the biggest brands out there, I’ve also worked with small start-ups as well as local businesses here in Nashville. If I feel passionate about what you have to offer and believe my fans will as well, there’s a great chance we can work something out.
I’ve been blogging for ten years now and have developed a devoted following that consists mostly of women between the ages of 27 and 48. They trust me to steer them in the right direction when it comes to my main passions: travel, parenting/stepparenting, and style and beauty. I also love to cook and look forward to delving more into that topic in the coming months. Typically, about 200,000 readers visit my blog each month and my posts frequently get thousands of Facebook shares and go viral several time a year, either here or on the Huffington Post, where I’m also a contributor. Here’s a look at the 2016 stats for Suburban Turmoil:
What can I do for you? A number of things!
–As the host and co-writer of an Emmy award-winning family travel show, I’ve recently ramped up my travel writing. Over the last year, I’ve been hired to write travel stories and advertorials for magazines, websites, hotels, and tourism bureaus. I write about family travel as well as vacations for couples. My travel posts get a tremendous amount of engagement and often end up on the first page of Google searches. If you’d like me to visit your travel destination and write about it or even shoot a video, feel free to contact me at firstname.lastname@example.org and we can discuss the possibilities.
–Looking for an on-camera host with an established social media presence? I have years of experience in this department (not to mention two Emmy Awards and six Emmy nominations). Recent credits include hosting/writing/co-creating the TV travel show Tout Your Town, creating, writing and starring in four seasons of the viral hit I’ll Take That Dare for CafeMom and YouTube, and covering the 2012 presidential election as reporter, commentator, and political writer for HLN and CafeMom. I also appeared in a series of Christmas Internet commercials for Proctor & Gamble. Before launching my blog, I was a television news anchor and reporter. You can see examples of my recent on-camera work on my ‘About’ page.
-I love working behind the camera, too. I’ve been a television writer and producer of a wide range of segments and shows for cable networks like CMT, A&E, HLN, the Hallmark channel, and GAC, as well as Nashville’s NBC and PBS affiliates. My husband, Dennis, a ten-time Emmy Award winner who’s known nationally as one of the best interviewers and storytellers in the country in television news, is now co-producing videos with me for brands and other ventures. Whether you need a simple yet attention-getting Internet video or a full-length television show, we can assemble an award-winning dream team to put it together for you from start to finish — and we can do it at a very competitive price. Let’s talk it over and see what we can come up with!
FREELANCE WRITING PROJECTS
-I’m always open to freelance writing projects that interest me. Topics I’ve covered here and elsewhere include travel, parenting, stepparenting (between my kids and stepkids, I’ve experienced every year of parenting children, from birth to 24 years old!), politics, blogging, style and beauty, humor, women’s issues, and living in the south.
I write a limited number of sponsored posts on Suburban Turmoil. My most successful posts have resulted when clients allowed me some creative freedom to write the post in a way that would appeal most to my readers. In this post about a grocery delivery service for some of Florida’s most popular beaches, for example, family vacation photos and friendly, frank writing about a much-needed vacation service convinced nearly 10,000 readers to share it with their friends on Facebook. Here’s what the client had to say afterward:
“We are thrilled with the traffic and response from your post. You have an incredible following. We have used some other blogs but the response has been 10x from your post. “

I’m happy to try out your product if it’s in keeping with my family’s lifestyle. However, please note that your product may or may not merit inclusion on this blog. I only recommend products, events, and/or services that we really feel passionate about. That said, I will not accept your product for review unless I believe that there’s a good chance we’ll love it.
Wondering what we might enjoy trying? My daughter is 12 and my son is 9– They enjoy age-appropriate toys, books, electronic gadgets and games. My interests include travel, cooking, fashion and beauty products, reading, homeschooling and gardening. Since I stay busy, I appreciate anything that makes my life easier!

I’ve done quite a bit of public speaking over the years to groups ranging in size from 20 to tens of thousands! I speak most frequently about blogging/video blogging, politics and the ‘mom vote,’ and parenting/stepparenting. If you’re interested in hiring me as a speaker for your event, I’d love to chat about it. Please note that due to time and budget constraints, I am currently unable to speak for free or pay my own travel/lodging costs for your event.
