>Well, another week has come to a close and since I don’t have to link to my Parents.com blog anymore, I’m going to take the weekends to share with you all the great things I’ve read and seen during the week. I’m excited about the opportunity to do this, since I’ve been getting tons of e-mails lately from people asking for good online reading material. Well, here you go!
And finally, Hubs and I went this week to see Jesse Winchester play at the Belcourt here in Nashville. It’s entirely possible that you’ve never heard of him, but let me just say that he is a brilliant, funny, thoughtful sage of a man and if he comes to your town, take my advice and move heaven and earth if you have to in order to go see him.
He was a famous folk singer in the 70s, but in my opinion, his voice and style have mellowed into something that’s way better today. He sings in a beautiful whisper, performs with no accompaniment other than his guitar, and his lyrics are pure poetry.
I had two thoughts while we were watching him- one was that if I were a billionaire, I would pay for him to sing me to sleep at least once or twice a week. So add him to my imaginary staff of housekeeper, sushi chef, and 24-hour on-call massage therapist. Heh. The other is that he is now officially on my fantasy dinner party guest list, which also includes Dorothy Parker, David Sedaris (naturally) and Ira Glass. He’s just that engaging and funny.
If you buy any of his CDs, this is the one I’d recommend (expensive, yes, but it’s also available on iTunes at the regular download price). And here’s a nice video of him on YouTube.
That should keep you busy for a little while.
Have a great weekend!
